There’s no more special moment than having your wedding first look photos taken. In fact, it’s one of the most anticipated parts of the entire wedding day, and for good reason. First look photos allow the betrothed to share unique, special, and intimate moments on their wedding day. It can also create special memories with any family or loved ones present—kids, dads, bridesmaids, and so on.

These first look pictures can be perfect for clearing away the jitters prior to a ceremony, and can allow the couple to build their bond as they (possibly) read their vows to each other in private.

However, as with any photos, there are a few considerations to be made—which we will cover in this article.

Location

Location is a factor worth considering in this part of the day. The two considerations for the location of your first look photos will be privacy and lighting.

Privacy

Privacy is the most important factor to think about when deciding where your first look photos should take place. If you and your partner want to keep it private, you can choose a secluded location and out of sight from the prying eyes of the public. Parking garages, gardens, and secluded spots are good locations where you can set up a location.

Lighting

Many couples choose to have their first look before the ceremony and during the golden hour, that is, during the hour or two right before the sunset. The low light will help you to achieve that perfect glow that photos often have.

Planning a First Look

These first look pictures poses are slightly different from the typical posing you would do for your wedding photos. If you want to get the best shots, we recommend that you and your fiancé practice the poses.

Moreover, we suggest that you take a first look practice session and have a professional photographer take the photos for you. That way, you can see what you both look like in photos, and then you can practice your poses as well. Doing a dry run will help you feel more comfortable in the location and with each other.

Work With a Good Photographer

You have to be very careful when choosing a photographer. Look closely at their work and make sure they are the style you want, and they have experience shooting this style of photos.

First Look Photos That are Unforgettable

Wedding first look pictures give the bride and groom a chance to be together, but away from the watchful eyes of their closest family members. These intimate images capture a couple’s first few moments alone as man and wife. They allow the couple to share their wedding day experience in a way that is uniquely their own, keeping them connected to each other and their emotions throughout the day.
